Take the Prevention Pledge
If you and your family want to make a commitment to do the best you can to keep your teeth healthy and happy, you can download and fill in our ‘Prevention Pledge’. Put it on display in the bathroom to remind you every day of what you should be doing to keep yourselves healthy. It even has a handy brushing chart included!
Reduce your Sugar Intake

Sugar should make up less than 10% (ideally less than 5%) of your daily calorie intake, however most people hugely underestimate how much sugar they consume.
Cutting down on the frequency at which you have fizzy drinks and sugary snacks, and even reducing fruit juice consumption can hugely impact on your sugar intake.
For advice and help with reducing your sugar intake download our sugar guidance document or visit the NHS website.
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Good oral hygiene is key to remaining cavity-free. From the time at which we get our first tooth we should be brushing twice a day for two minutes and using a fluoride toothpaste as per age guidelines.
For further advice on brushing habits you can visit the ADA website.

Visit Your Dental Team

Regular check ups with your dental team are the only way to ensure that you stay cavity-free. Your dentist or hygienist will be able to advise you as to anything you should do more (or less) of and will also be able to recommend preventive treatments which can stop any early stage caries from progressing into cavities.
Don’t wait to until you have a problem to make an appointment, by then it is too late! Your dental team are there to help you stay healthy, not just to fix you when you’re not!
