The Colombian Chapter of the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF) held the academic Meeting: United for Caries Prevention: A Look at Fluoride Varnish Application in Colombia in June 2026. The event was held in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
The meeting brought together academic experts and public health professionals to discuss the role of fluoride varnish in the prevention of dental caries and to review its implementation and impact within Colombia’s oral health programs. The session was moderated by Dr. Jaime Alberto Ruiz, Full Professor at El Bosque University and UNICOC.
The invited speakers included: Dr. Sandra Tovar, National Oral Health Coordinator, Ministry of Health, Dr. Edgar Beltrán, Research Professor, El Bosque University, UNICA, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (PUJ) and Dr. Nancy Chaparro, Oral Health Coordinator, Boyacá Department of Health Secretariat.
The event provided a platform for the exchange of scientific evidence, institutional experiences, and public health perspectives on the use of fluoride varnish as an effective strategy for preventing dental caries. It also promoted collaboration among universities, government institutions, and oral health professionals to strengthen preventive oral health initiatives in Colombia.
The in-person session took place at the Auditorium of the Colombian Dental Federation (FOC) in Bogotá – Colombia, while an additional in-person group participated from the Colgate Conference Room in Cali – Colombia. A total of 26 participants attended in person in Bogotá, 13 participants attended in person in Cali, and 213 participants joined virtually via webinar, for a total attendance of 252 participants.
